Lunga est une porte ouverte sur un renouveau : le son d’un matin brumeux, la lumière naissante, une atmosphère d’optimisme. Ce projet solo de Sydney Minsky Sargeant (alias Syd), connu pour son travail avec Working Men’s Club, se distingue par des chansons lumineuses et mélodiques, un antidote à l’intensité du monde en tournée. Écrites sur plusieurs années, depuis son adolescence à Todmorden jusqu’à aujourd’hui, les douze chansons de Lungaforment un refuge intime et sincère. On y perçoit des échos de Nick Drake, Bon Iver ou Bill Callahan, portés par des arrangements délicats et une atmosphère éthérée.
« Ces chansons viennent d’une quête de sens et d’honnêteté. Elles m’ont aidé à comprendre mes émotions, mes erreurs, et à me réconcilier avec moi-même », confie Syd.
Enregistré au Nave Studios à Leeds, Lunga mêle les deux mondes qui l’habitent : l’électronique et le folk, l’ombre et la lumière. Des morceaux comme Hazel Eyes ou Chicken Wire illustrent cette dualité. À 23 ans, Syd prouve une maturité rare, jouant la plupart des instruments et co-produisant l’album avec Alex Greaves. Avec Lunga, il tourne la page sur les turbulences vécues avec Working Men’s Club et signe une œuvre d’introspection et de renaissance. C’est une musique empreinte de vulnérabilité, de paix retrouvée et d’un désir profond de connexion humaine.

Lunga is a gateway to renewal: the sound of a misty morning, the first light of day, an atmosphere of optimism. This solo project by Sydney Minsky Sargeant (aka Syd), known for his work with Working Men’s Club, stands out for its bright, melodic songs, an antidote to the intensity of life on tour. Written over several years, from her teenage years in Todmorden to the present day, the twelve songs on Lunga form an intimate and sincere refuge. There are echoes of Nick Drake, Bon Iver and Bill Callahan, carried by delicate arrangements and an ethereal atmosphere.
« These songs come from a quest for meaning and honesty. They helped me understand my emotions, my mistakes, and reconcile with myself, » says Syd.
Recorded at Nave Studios in Leeds, Lunga blends the two worlds that inhabit it: electronic and folk, shadow and light. Tracks like Hazel Eyes and Chicken Wire illustrate this duality. At 23, Syd shows rare maturity, playing most of the instruments and co-producing the album with Alex Greaves.
