D’aussi loin qu’elle se souvienne, Annegret Fiedler a toujours créé des mélodies électroniques pour accompagner ses rêves. S’inspirant de son amour précoce pour la New Wave et le Post-Punk, elle est devenue Perel, une productrice électronique, vocaliste et DJ qui a passé la majeure partie des années 2010 à façonner son son – et à en récolter les louanges. Première artiste allemande à signer sur le label dance-punk de James Murphy, DFA Records, Perel s’est produite sur scène et en tant que DJ dans le monde entier, dans les clubs techno les plus branchés comme dans les plus grands festivals. Ayant grandi dans l’État de Saxe, en Allemagne de l’Est, elle a appris à écrire et à produire des chansons, inspirée par Apex Twin, Kraftwerk et The Cure, entre autres. Plus tard, attirée par Berlin et sa scène de clubs underground, elle prend le nom de Perel, écrivant, produisant et chantant en solo pour des labels tels que Running Back, Uncanny Valley, Kompakt et Permanent Vacation. Dans une scène des clubs en constante évolution et aux multiples visages, Perel se démarque en chantant sur ses sets de DJ, faisant le lien entre l’ambiance de son propre son en direct et ses sélections. Perel a dérivé dans l’orbite des dirigeants de DFA Records, qui ont publié son premier album solo Hermetica au printemps 2018. Son son a une parenté naturelle avec DFA : des lignes de basse enjouées ondulent tandis que des synthés house et techno percutants font passer le message de ses crochets et refrains, des vocalisations fantomatiques qui parlent de romance, d’effroi et de puissance.

For as long as she can remember, Annegret Fiedler has created electronic melodies to soundtrack her daydreams. Drawing on her early love for brooding New Wave and Post-Punk, she became Perel, an electronic producer, vocalist and DJ who spent much of the 2010s shaping her sound – and to just praise. As well as being the first German artist to sign to James Murphy’s seminal dance-punk label DFA Records, Perel has performed internationally as a live act and DJ, from the floors of throbbing techno clubs to major city festivals. Growing up in the East German state of Saxony, she learned how to write and produce songs, inspired by Apex Twin, Kraftwerk and The Cure, among others. Later drawn to Berlin and its underground club scene, she took on the persona of Perel, writing, producing and singing on solo material for labels like Running Back, Uncanny Valley, Kompakt and Permanent Vacation. In an ever-evolving club scene with myriad faces, Perel stood out by singing over her DJ sets, bridging the mood of her own live sound with her selections. Perel drifted into the orbit of the heads of DFA Records, who released her debut solo album Hermetica in the spring of 2018. Her sound has a natural kinship with DFA: playful basslines undulate as thumping house and techno synths drive home the message of her hooks and refrains, ghostly vocalizations that speak of romance, dread and power.
