Le 21 juillet 2016, un utilisateur du forum /mu/ de 4chan a posté une photo d’un CD démo qu’il avait découvert dans un magasin  à Nottingham, au Royaume-Uni : intitulé D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L, prétendument sorti en 2000. L’auditeur a téléchargé le fichier audio déchiré sur des sites de partage de fichiers, puis sur YouTube, où il a commencé à circuler sur des forums en ligne. Une communauté de fans s’est formée pour élucider l’histoire de ce mystérieux disque, jusqu’à ce qu’un groupe local de Nottingham, disparu depuis longtemps, qui se faisait appeler Panchiko, découvre que son album de 1998 (limité à 30 exemplaires) s’était propagé de manière virale sur l’internet 18 ans plus tard.

On July 21st, 2016, a user on 4chan’s /mu/ board posted a photo of a demo CD they’d discovered in an Oxfam charity store in Nottingham, UK: titled D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L, purportedly released in 2000. The listener uploaded the ripped audio to file-sharing sites, and later YouTube, where it began circulating around web forums. A cult of fans banded together to solve the origin story of the mysterious disc, until eventually a long defunct local band from Nottingham who called themselves Panchiko discovered their 1998 album (limited to 30 copies) had spread virally across the internet 18 years later.
