Originaires de Melbourne, HighSchool est le duo formé par Rory Trobbiani et Luke Scott, révélé avec leur premier EP Forever at Last, mêlant lo-fi, new wave, goth et post-punk. Après un passage remarqué à Londres, ils sortent les singles Only a Dream (avec Dan Carey, via Speedy Wunderground) et Colt, qui leur valent une base de fans internationale et des tournées à travers l’Australie, l’Europe, le Japon et l’Amérique du Nord — partageant la scène avec Sam Fender, Provoker et Chvrches, et jouant dans des festivals comme SXSW, The Great Escape ou All Points East.
Signés chez [PIAS], ils sortent ensuite Accelerator, un second EP plus sombre, souvent comparé à Bar Italia ou julle. Après une tournée triomphale avec Wunderhorse, ils se consacrent à leur premier album éponyme, produit par Ben Hillier (Blur, Depeche Mode) et Finn Bellingham. Enregistré entre Londres et Melbourne, l’album est une bande-son introspective de jeunesse, oscillant entre post-punk, slowcore et alt-rock, avec des titres comme Dipped, Sony Ericsson, Chaplins ou Colt. Fidèles à leur univers visuel fort, le duo signe également la réalisation de leurs clips, puisant dans leurs racines cinématographiques et adolescentes.

From Melbourne, HighSchool are the duo of Rory Trobbiani and Luke Scott who caught attention with their six-track debut EP, Forever at Last (which featured fan favourites ‘New York, Paris and London’ and ‘Frosting’), showing a new band who were putting a new lens on classic lo-fi, new wave, goth and post-punk. A stint living in London followed where they cut their teeth on the live scene there while also releasing the standalone singles ‘Only a Dream’ (recorded with Dan Carey and coming out on his Speedy Wunderground label) and the ltalo-disco fused banger ‘Colt’.
This time period also saw them find a lot of fans, selling out multiples vinyl runs and playing shows across Australia, Europe, Japan and North America, touring with the likes of Sam Fender, Provoker and Chvrches, as well as performing at renowned festivals including SXSW Austin, The Great Escape, All Points East, Wide Awake and Reeperbahn. After finding a label home with [PIAS], they released their second EP, Accelerator (which featured the singles ‘August 19’ and ‘Doesn’t Matter’), a brilliant record that saw them add a darker shade that now had people likening them to peers such as Bar Italia, julle and (untitled) halo. They closed the first chapter with a hugely successful tour of the UK with Wunderhorse last winter before they retreated from view to finish their longawaited debut album.
