Eliza est de retour avec un nouveau projet intitulé ‘A Sky Without Stars’, qui, face à une multitude de problèmes dans le monde, nous invite à lever les yeux, à prendre du recul et à nous souvenir des choses importantes de la vie.
‘A Sky Without Stars’ est le premier album d’Eliza depuis ‘A Real Romantic,’ sorti en 2018 – un disque R&B/Soul qui représentait, pour la chanteuse et compositrice du nord de Londres, le moment où elle a trouvé sa propre voix.
L’album ‘A Real Romantic’ (2018) était une réponse aux forces du capitalisme et du patriarcat à l’œuvre dans l’industrie musicale et dans le Monde. « Je vivais pour un vieil idéal », chante-t-elle sur le titre poignant Alone & Unafraid. « De la sécurité mais ce n’est pas réel / Ne pouvez-vous pas sentir que quelque chose est différent ? / Et je me suis branchée sur quelque chose qui me manque. C’est ma propre petite religion.
Écrit au milieu de l’agitation sociale et politique de l’élection de Donald Trump aux États-Unis et du référendum sur le Brexit au Royaume-Uni, ‘A Real Romanti’c est une réponse aux sentiments de désespoir qu’elle – et beaucoup d’entre nous – ressentait à l’époque. Elle incarne l’évasion, l’expérimentation et l’évolution. Et l’euphorie aussi, qui est venue avec la découverte que c’est ce qu’elle est. Cependant, dans ce nouvel album, Eliza ne fuit pas la réalité, elle l’affronte de plein fouet. Ce disque, plus confrontant, représente son désir de s’attaquer aux nombreux problèmes qu’elle voit dans le monde. Dans des tons aussi doux que le miel, elle nous attire et nous fait pénétrer dans l’obscurité. Et puisant dans les sonorités des années 70, les chansons sont couvertes d’un son chaud comme de la laine et doux comme du satin, ce qui leur confère un sentiment à la fois maussade, sensuel et séduisant.Cette année, ELIZA s’est forgée une identité d’artiste avec des chansons magnifiquement conçues, une présence scénique inoubliable et une voix unique…. et elle ne fait que commencer.

Eliza is back with a bold new LP titled A Sky Without Stars, which, in the face of a multitude of problems in the world, invites us to look up, gain perspective, and remember the important things in life.
A Sky Without Stars is Eliza’s first body of work since 2018’s A Real Romantic – a slinky, R&B/Soul record that represented, for the North London singer and songwriter, the moment she found her own voice.
2018’s A Real Romantic album was a response to the forces of capitalism and patriarchy at work in the music industry and the World. “I was living for an old ideal” she sings on the poignantly-titled track Alone & Unafraid. “Of security but it isn’t real / Can’t you feel that something’s different? / And I’ve tuned into something missing / It’s my own little religion.”
Written amid the social and political turmoil of the election of Donald Trump in the US and the Brexit referendum in the UK, A Real Romantic is a response to feelings of hopelessness she – and many of us – were feeling at the time. It embodies escapism, experimentation, and evolution. And euphoria too, which came with the discovery that this is who she is.
However in this new LP A Sky Without Stars, Eliza doesn’t escape from reality – she faces it head on. An altogether more confrontational record, it represents her desire to engage with the many problems she sees in the world. In tones as smooth as honey, she draws us in and delves into the darkness. And drawing on the sonics of the 70s, songs are ladden with a wool-warm and satin-soft sound, lending them a feel that is at once sullen, saturnine, sensual and seductive.
The title came because she wanted to point at the reality of the skies, and that we never get to see the stars in London or any city in the world. We are shrouded under a self-oppressive veil of light pollution. This, she feels, could be one of the major sources of many of the world’s problems – a fracture in our relationship with nature, which makes us lose sight of our place in the universe, and our infinitesimally small size within it. pean headline tour with dates at Eurosonic, Amsterdam, Paris, and Berlin, ending at London’s Scala on 14th March – her most ambitious show yet. This year saw ELIZA shape herself as an artist with beautifully crafted songs, an unforgettable stage presence and a voice like no other…. and she’s only getting started.
